If Bedbugged, Bug Your Landlord
Bedbugs are one of the most difficult insects to eradicate. Recent studies have indicated that bedbugs are resistant to many pesticide products currently on the market, so effective bedbug control requires a comprehensive, integrated bedbug management approach.
Effective bedbug control requires customer cooperation, extensive vacuuming, steam cleaning, encapsulating the infested bedding, the application of pesticide products where needed, and several follow up treatments.
Bedbug extermination is a major job, not just a matter of "calling the exterminator" and the bedbugs magically disappearing.
Preparing for a Bedbug Control Job
It is imperative that painstaking attention be provided to every possible harborage area, as well as a high level of cooperation on the part of the customer. Customers preparing for a bedbug treatment are expected to do the following prior to the arrival of the pest control technician:
-
Remove all clutter and stored items, the more the clutter the more harborage is provided for bedbugs, and the more complicated to provide an adequate treatment.
-
Strip all beds in the affected room(s) and thoroughly vacuum the mattresses. (If possible, steam-cleaning will greatly increase the likelihood of success of a bedbug job.)
-
Remove any removable textiles (carpeting, throw pillows, draperies, etc.) and either wash them in detergent and the hottest water they can stand or have them professionally cleaned. Then seal whatever you can in heavy-duty plastic bags and store them in an uninfested area.
-
Empty all cabinets, dressers, night tables, and closets, and clean all clothing and other textiles as described above.
-
Thoroughly vacuum (and shampoo, if possible) all carpeting, and wash all uncarpeted floors. (Make sure to allow enough time for them to thoroughly dry before the pest management technician's arrival.)
Conventional Bedbug Treatment
When Pest Quest Pest Management service technicians treat your property for bedbugs using conventional methods, this is what we'll do:
-
Thoroughly vacuum the infested areas with a professional pest control HEPA filter vacuum and steam clean with the Kleenjet Pro Plus 300cs commercial vapor steam cleaner. This treatment includes all potential bedbug harborage areas, such as bedding, furniture, and cracks and crevices. -
Encapsulate your mattress and box spring with the “Protecta-A-Bed” bedbug encasement, which we provide as part of our comprehensive bedbug control program.
-
Apply a thorough application of an EPA-registered insecticide to all treatable cracks and crevices, particularly around carpet tack, walls and closets, utilizing several products including growth regulators. These products include, but are not limited to: Phantom, Suspend SC, Demand, Gentrol, Steri-Fab, Delta Dust, and Bedlam.
Non-Chemical Bedbug Control
Pest Quest also offers non-chemical bedbug control using high-temperature steam, which many customers prefer and which has several distinct advantages over conventional treatment, including:
-
No pesticides are used.
-
There is no need to vacate the home for an extended period of time.
-
Non-chemical treatment using steam and extraction not only kills the bedbugs, but also removes their dead bodies, shed skins, droppings, and other bodily filth.
-
The high-temperature steam process also kills 99.9 percent of disease-causing mold, mildew, and bacteria.
